Kindle Unlimited Cancellation: How-To

To cancel your Kindle Unlimited:

  • Click on “Your Account” at the top of page
  • Scroll down to the section “Digital Content” and click on “Manage Your Content and Devices”
  • Click on the tab “Settings”
  • Scroll down to “Kindle Unlimited Settings” and click on “Cancel Kindle Unlimited”
  • In the pop-up window click “I want to cancel”

You should see a message saying “…You have canceled your Kindle Unlimited subscription. Your subscription will be active until [DATE]…”

You can cancel your Kindle Unlimited anytime, and enjoy the benefits until the next billing date. After that, you will lose access to the books that you have in your Kindle Unlimited, so it may be a good idea to finish reading them first.

Past the Kindle Unlimited cancellation, your bookmarks, highlights and notes within the books will be saved to your Amazon account. If you access the books in the future, the bookmarks, highlights and notes will be available.

Why do people cancel Kindle Unlimited?

During the 30-day free trial the member may search for books under Kindle Unlimited and not find what they want. Many of the books are indie books or bargain books, not too many bestsellers. That is why some people go ahead with the Kindle Unlimited cancellation at the end of the trial offer.

If you forget to cancel before the free trial period ends, your account will be charged for $9.99 for this membership. If you cancel then, you will not receive a prorated refund, as Amazon does not pro-rate refunds on Kindle Unlimited cancellations. Since the books are borrowed rather than purchased, they will disappear from your Amazon account. It may be a good idea to use the service until the end of the next period.

KU isn’t for everyone, but some people love it. The tricky part is to learn to sift through uninteresting titles and find good ones, and there are plenty of them in the KU catalog.

If you cannot find titles that you would be interested in reading, you may want to check other similar services like the Oyster and Scribd – they have many bestselling authors on board, via some of the major book publishers.
