Fifty Shades Darker, aka Fifty Shades Greyer or Fifty Shades #2

Fifty Shades Greyer is an unofficial name for the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey called Fifty Shades Darker.

It is not known why the author did not use the comparative adjective “greyer” (as in Fifty Shades Greyer), but decided to name the second installment of FSOG Fifty Shades Darker instead.

Fifty Shades Darker is a 2012 novel by E. L. James. This second installment of the trilogy traces the deepening romance between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The first volume, Fifty Shades of Grey was published in 2011 and the third volume, Fifty Shades Freed was published in 2012.

Fifty Shades Darker – the Plot

Days after leaving Christian, Ana has begun her job at Seattle Independent Publishing and is hired as personal assistant to editor Jack Hyde. Jack continually asks her out, and Ana gets an uneasy feeling about him.

Christian emails Ana. The pair attend her friend ‘s gallery exhibit in Portland together and reconcile by kissing in an alley and dining out together.

Christian buys José’s portraits of Ana. He reveals to Ana that he has bought SIP, and Ana is furious that he is interfering in her career.

Christian insists that Jack is a philanderer who has harassed his last five assistants. Indeed, Jack corners Ana after hours and blackmails her, demanding sexual favors. She escapes. Christian fires Jack and confiscates his computer.

While attending a masquerade ball at Grey’s residence, Ana meets Elena Lincoln and finds out that Elena and Christian own a salon business together.

Ana is auctioned off and Christian bids $100,000 USD to dance with her. Ana finds out that Christian remains friends with Elena – the woman who seduced him at 15, and introduced him to the BDSM.

When Elena realizes that Christian sees Ana as a girlfriend, she becomes negative towards Ana.

Ana is being stalked by Leila Williams, Christian’s former submissive. Leila breaks into Ana’s apartment and threatens her at gunpoint. Christian uses his dominant/submissive method to diffuse the situation, but this leaves Ana worried.

Ana confronts Christian, he impulsively proposes, but Ana needs time to consider. José, whom Christian views as a romantic rival, visits Ana in Seattle.

Before Christian’s 28th birthday he goes missing while flying in his helicopter; sabotage is suspected. When he appears, Ana accepts his marriage proposal.

Elena confronts Ana, accusing her of gold-digging, and saying that a vanilla relationship will never satisfy Christian. Christian’s adoptive mother overhears this and is furious that Elena preyed on her teenage son. Christian decides to end the business relationship with Elena.

Christian takes Ana to the boathouse decorated with flowers and lights. The kinky business magnate proposes with a ring and Ana accepts. Outside, Jack Hyde is secretly watching; he reveals that he sabotaged the helicopter and swears revenge.

Will “Fifty Shades Greyer” Be a Success?

The first movie, Fifty Shades of Grey garnered $85 million over the three-day weekend – an extremely successful box office debut on February 13, 2015.

The key to a successful franchise is the timing. Usually, the quicker you can put the sequel out, the better. With a yearly slot, the popular series becomes a welcome visitor in the hearts of the fans. If you wait too long, the public may turn their back to any movie, even a sexy spectacle like Fifty Shades Of Grey.

A longer gap between films might tire fans awaiting their next round – Fifty Shades Darker, and the cinematic future of Christian and Anastasia may be up in the air. Yet, many people would rather they were done right rather than quickly.

Fifty Shades Darker – The Facts

Not long left until we see Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get hot on the big screen again. “Fifty Shades Greyer” is expected to air 10 February 2017 (USA). Filming locations included Vancouver, British Columbia, and Canada. Fifty Shades Freed is expected to air 9 February, 2018. May there be a connection with the Valentine’s Day?

Jamie Dornan’s official rep stated that Jamie was completely devoted to the franchise, and will play in both sequels. Same is true for Dakota Johnson.

Fans have expressed interest in actresses Charlize Theron and Michelle Pfeiffer for the role of Elena Lincoln In March of 2015. In 2016 it was confirmed that Kim Basinger would take on the role of Elena Lincoln.

FSOG director Sam Taylor-Johnson said she would not be returning for the Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel stated she would not be returning either.

The follow-up film’s scriptwriter has been announced— E.L. James has enlisted husband Niall Leonard to pen the script for the forthcoming film.

“Fifty Shades Greyer” trailer was promoting film 21 months prior to the release date – “Are you ready for something … darker?”
